Travel and Communication
Roads
Roads were frequently used by merchants, slaves (who were delivering a letter to somebody) and also soldiers and wealthy people
Roman roads were known for being very long and going directly to a place. You can still see quite a lot of them

How to build a road
After they had got where they wanted the line to be they would raise an agger which was an embankment of earth as the firm foundation, this could be up to 1.5 metres high.
They covered the agger with a layer of large stones and then another of small stones, rubble and hardcore. They would then put local stones on the top (usually flat for easier travel)
It was first laid out be surveyors who measured it straight from 2 points which were signalled from smoke from a fire. They had to avoid mountains and also large rivers for the roads making it more difficult

Sea travel
Ships were very certain about which time and days they would travel. If there was not much wind or a storm it would not risk travelling. Along with that travelling by sea had a lot of dangers like pirates or shipwrecks
People would sleep on the deck of the ship in a small portable shelter and rich people could maybe sleep in cabins
.
Using sea travel was the preferable way of travelling in the roman empire and was quicker and a lot easier

Imperial posts
They were used for resupply reasons and also to allow rapid mobveement of roman soldiers and show that the romans controlled this area. If you had a government warrant you could get resupplie here and travel alot furthur in day and night
Letters would also be carried via these imperial posts and would be delivered down the road. Private letters took a lot longer.
