Saddam's Rule
Purges
Saddam put on trail 66 officials in the Baath Party. 55 were found guilty,22 were killed the rest went to prison.
Kurds
Saddam destroyed half of the homes of the kurds,killing and injuring thousands including using poisonous gas on them. over 1 million left to Iraq.
Shia
When the Shia revolted,Saddam killed women and children. He removed the food supply for the Marsh Arabs and launched chemical weapons attack against them.
Personality Cult
Saddam used propaganda to present himself as a father of Iraq. He made songs, posters/paintings,statues etc.
Modernization
In 1979 Saddam nationalized oil profits. He used that money to raise wages,cut taxes,and provide food.
Military Expansion
Saddam used the money to buy tanks, helicopters,surface to air missiles,hire more soldiers.. He built chemical/ biological weapons factories. tried to expand into nuclear power but was unsuccessful
Totalitarianism
Most of the government were family members. The youth were taught to praise Saddam. All media was controlled by the Baath Party no freedom of speech
