Smartphones & Computers
- Computers were originally designed to replace typewriters and other forms of database systems that were known as technology four decades ago. One of the articles we had to analyze this semester "Technological Determinism" broke down the effects that technology far as computers and smartphones has on people in today’s society. It shows how technical developments, media, or technology as a whole as the turn around in both social change and history. The article had stated that “technological development and innovation become the principle motor of social, economic or political change”. Technology determinism sees technology as the basis for all human activity which has been defined as an approach that identifies technology as the main cause of social change.
- Smartphones and Computers have a lot to offer but also has some negatives too.
- I've learned that a smartphone is just another version of a computer but just a better source because of the size, it being portable, and the tons of information that can be stored and the amount of things you can do. Who would've know almost four decades ago that there were going to be phones that are made to where you can visually call and talk to someone as if they are really next to you.
- Smartphones have impacted society so much today but has also weakened people's communication skills too. People are so hooked on their phones to the point where they don't know how to hold an actual conversation with someone either in a normal or professional conversation.
The Internet
Memory
Google is one of the main browsers of the web that people use. With me being a college student, I can honestly say that I will google anything in a heartbeat. A article that we read this semester "Google Knowing" by Michael Patrick Lynch had basically talked about how Google has risen in the past decade and how we use it to find just about any piece of information that we need. According to Michael P Lynch, Google is basically knowledge acquired online. Which is true but is one storing that knowledge inside its brain. What I am trying to say is after completing this course, I've realized that someone can easily search something and not remember anything or learn anything by using the Internet. But if one had to go back the old school way of reading books and articles to find information, they would actually retain and learn what they were looking for.

Conclusion
To sum it all of, my experience in English 231-D2 Film, New Media and Culture was amazing. The main thing that was discussed throughout the course was technology. I've learned more than enough of how it impacts us today as a whole and how it currently impacts me a college student. In Michael Patrick's article "Our Digital Form of Life" he mentioned that Neuromedia is stated to be where smartphones are miniaturized and hooked directly into a person’s brain in a society, and with a single command, those who have this technology can access information on any subject .After completing this course I plan on changing my ways socially and professionally when it comes to using technology, just because of what I learned on how it can can mess up my ways of communicating with others and not allow me to actually process and and learn the information that I find from using different sources of media through technology.
