Professor E.E. CHEESMAN state there was sufficient suitable land area to grow cocoa trees and expect annual production of 100,000 tonnes dried cocoa beans.
He noticed that shortage of cocoa planting material about 500 bearing in whole malaya and less than 100 in borneo, consist of criollo and trinitarion types. He take action by combine axperimentation and bulking up of planting material as new materials.

Fluctuations with small decline in cocoa areas planted were noted from 2005 (33,398 ha) till 2010 (19,417 ha.), about 2000 ha loss annually over the period

Goverment Policy
National Commodity Policy annually new areas of 2 000 ha will be cultivated with cocoa to established a targeted area.

Increase new area cultivation of 1 567 ha in addition to the rehabilitation of low & unproductive area
