ASEAN
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations
consist of 10 Southeast Asian states
in 1967, thailand, indonesia, philippines, singapore and malaysia founded ASEAN
they wanted to improve economic, political and social cooperation and balance political conflicts
in the 2000s, free trade agreements were concluded with india, china, south korea, australia, newzeland and japan
in the second half of the 1990s, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia joined ASEAN
decisions are generally made by consensus, no member can be forced to something
today, ASEAN is based on 4 pillars:
political and security community to ensure peace
economic community woth a strong domestic market
social and cultural community
relation to social and environmental justice
problem coal production
problem haze : large areas of precious rainforest are burnt down for palm oil
environmental pillar
society
participation
transparency
information
no repression
