In the next article, "The Medium is the Message", Marshall came up with the term , “...a global village, another word he is credited for coining, and predicts the intensification of the world community to its present expression.”(Marshall) To me, this is saying that the global community is just that, a community. It is just like a normal community in the real world but instead, it is on the internet.
The next major point we learned about was google-knowing. According to Lynch, from her article called "Google-Knowing", Google knowing, in short is, “...knowledge acquired online.”(Lynch.23). Basically, we think we genuinely know something but in realtors, we do not.
Our Digital Form of Life written by Michael Patrick Lynch was our next major read. The overall consensus that I gathered from this article is that Lynch believes that the type of digital knowledge we acquire on a daily basis isn’t the best form of knowledge.Lynch says,”...smartphones are miniaturized and hooked directly into a person’s brain…(Lynch.3)” and ,”...can access information on any subject.(Lynch.3).” This relates to google-knowing because our phones are our brains.
We then started moving into the topic of films. we started with Film Theory and Analysis by Jacobs. This disucessed the four levels of meaning in a movie. These levels are: referential, explicit, implicit, and symptomatic.
In the same article by Jacobs, he discussed the ways that people approach interpreting films. Some of these approaches include formalist, realist and contextualists.
Keeping up with the articles about films, the next important article was called "The Gaze". This article talked about the way people look at each other in films. In this article, Daniel Chandler talks about something called “the gaze”. In his words, “the gaze”,”... refer both to the ways in which viewers look at images of people in any visual medium and to the gaze of those depicted in visual texts.”(Chandler).
This led up to our Film Analysis. We watched the move "Her" and used all these articles and videos to help us analyze and write a paper on the film.
This then took us to our next area of technology. The video we started with after the film section was Kurzweil and the Technological Singularity.
In this video, Ray Kurzweil talks about the positives and negatives of technological advances as well as his topic of singularity. A major point made in this video was that ",”by 2029, we will have reverse engineered the human brain and its functions” (Kurzweil).

But, also in this article, Lynch said, "...many of us are adapting to a digital form of life(Lynch.10).” With this digital form of life Lynch says that,”Our minds work faster, multitask more, and just plain get more stuff done.(Lynch11)”
