Voice
What attracts a reader to a story. Usually tends to make you believe or not believe the story that you are writing. It describes actions that took place, uses dialogue, describes with the 5 senses, and describes the images around the storyteller

Organization
The structure of writing that holds information together. This is what gets the flow of ideas comprehensible and memorable.

Ideas
Ideas can be formed by talking, webbing, listing, drawing, or writing from the start
Conventions
The spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar help make a student's writing clear and understandable.

Sharing
This happens when a writer shares their writing with themselves or with their peers. Usually they are looking for critiques on how to make their writing better.

Publishing
The final process of writing where the writer checks their writing for completion to have it published
Writing Workshop
Writing Time
During this time, teachers can either be modeling the process by working on their own writing or conferencing with individual students.
Sharing Time
During this time, students share either with the whole class or small-group what they have written.
Mini-lesson/Introduction
This is the teacher-directed portion of writing workshop. Mini-lessons should be assessment-based, explicit instruction.
Balanced Literacy

Teachers model writing strategies. Teaches writing strategies. Extends understanding of the writing process. Teacher scribes.
Independent Writing
Child chooses topics. Child practices at his independent level. Time to practice demonstrates the value of writing.
