P4 Electric Circuits
-
Resistance
-
R = V ÷ I
-
(ohms, Ω) (volts, V) (amps, A)
-
Required Practical
-
-
- attach a wire to a meter ruler using tape and connect wire to rest of circuit using crocodile clips
- connect the circuit with a battery, an ammeter, voltmeter and length of wire
- the distance between the two crocodile clips can be increased to adjust the length of wire (between clips) in the circuit
- record the length of wire between the crocodile clips and the readings on the ammeter and voltmeter
- calculate the resistance for each length of wire using R=V/I
- draw a graph showing that resistance of the wire is directly proportional to the length
Issues
-
Heating Effects
if temperature increases, resistance will also increase
