Install RMAN Agent
Gives you the interface to communicate between the Oracle's MML API(Media management layer) AKA SBT(System Backup to Tape) and the DD Boost.

Oracle Server
The DD Boost works on the Oracle server. It generates a hashvalue/checksum for each segment of the data and verifies the data for duplication. There by reducing the overhead on the DD storage for de-duplication. This also reduces the need for higher bandwidth due to unique segment of data being transferred from the Oracle Server.
Data Domain MTree replicaiton.
MTrees are user-defined logical partitions of the DD storage file system which enables more granular measurement of the
DD file system.
MTree replication is used to create disaster recovery copies of MTress at a secondary storage location.
It takes snapshots of the source DD. It transmits the differences btw 2 snapshots to the destination DD.
The snapshot is not exposed at the destination until the data required to verify the snapshot is received.
The destination will always be a point-in-time
image of the source DD.

DPA: Data protection Advisor
Provides a comprehensive view of the backup infrastructure via automated data collection, analysis, alerts and reporting.
It integrates with the DD systems and the RMAN's control file system or the catalog database in order to report all the RMAN backup and recovery operations.
DPA gathers information from the Oracle RMAN. When recovery begins, detailed information is written into the control file or into a recovery catalog. The DPA then collects info from the control file or the recovery catalog. It provides overal information about the amount of data backed up and remaining, throughput etc etc

Using MTree replication and Data Domain Encryption software the deduplicated data can be encrypted in-line before it lands on the Data Domain System.
Similarly, the DD Replicator can be used to replicate data in-line while transferring btw the DD systems.

Dell EMC Networker:
The DD Boost for networker sends the de-duplication process to either Networker Storage node or directly to Oracle Server using the Networker Module.
Dell EMC Avamar:
Reduces the size of the data at the client location before ti is transferred across the network.
DD boost in avamar enables clients to send specific set of data that are best suited for in-line deduplication to the DD systems.
DDBEA: Data domain boost for Enterprise Applications
Consists of 2 modules where the DD Boost is integrated with the native data protection applkication like SAP HANA, RMAN(ORacle), etc etc.
The purpose of this is to provide the DBA the access to perform backup and recovery by himself and thereby cutting down on the involvement of the Dell's IT Operations department.
PBBA: Purpose-built backup appliance is a
stand alone disk based storage device dedicated for backup and recovery which involves techniques like de-duplication, compression, encryption, automated setup and maintenance.
It can be used as a target for data coming from a backup appliance or can be part of integrated backup appliance.
Fast Recovery Area:
Oracle managed file system or ASM disk group which gives a centralized access to managed the backup and recovery files. Archived logs and flashback logs are stored here.
RMAN Repository:
RMAN maintains a record for all the db files and backups for each database on which it performs the backup operations. This is a metadata and its called RMAN Repository.
The primary location of the RMAN repository is the control file. In some cases there is a secondary repository called the recovery catalog.
