Prioritise & strengthen your knowledge to allow you to deal with struggling students to the best of your ability.
Be inclusive -
Encourage students to work with one another regardless of ability.This will benefit all students not just those who are struggling.
Collaborate & communicate with other teachers
- Review & share teaching methods and new resources with colleagues. Also discuss shared student behaviour to develop the best approach for a struggling student.

Create a flexible environment with a variety of different activities.
Use flexible grouping based on commonalites or interests.
Use discovery based practices to encourage participation.
Tiered activities often work best here - Concepts learned should be the same for the whole class but complexity varies based on the needs of the student.

Use small-group instruction to reteach students having difficulty.
Use student questions and topics to guide lectures and materials
selection.
Use applications, examples, and illustrations from a wide range of
intelligences.
Focus on Products
Allow students to use a range of media or formats to express their knowledge,
understanding, and skill.
Teach students how to use a wide range of product formats.
Provide visual, auditory, and kinesthetic product options.
Provide analytic, creative, and practical product options.
Be flexible-
Adjust teaching style to suit students - This will lead to a more productive and valuable class for all involved.
Regularly monitor your approach in the classroom -
Ensure it is still suitable for the needs of the students
How can teachers recognise a struggling student?
Signs of impairment - addiction, mental or psychological
Student is anxious about school
Student does not participate in class - avoiding questions, reluctancy to read etc.
Life circumstances - death of a family member, divorce, abuse, poverty
How can school support?
Provide regular education opportunities for teachers to provide them with greater understand and tools to use in the classroom
Ensure a policy is set up to accommodate students who are struggling and/ or may have special needs. This will benefit students, teachers and parents. Removing any uncertainty as to how special students should be facilitated.
Maintain open commulnication with teachers and parents to ensure that students needs can be sufficiently met.
