With the fall of Quebec, the only major French settlement left was Montreal-However, because of the lateness in the year, British forces were forced to sail back to Britain, leaving only a small command post in Quebec. SPRING 1760- The French in Montreal attempted to take back Quebec- the French won a partial victory, but the British were able to use the walls of Quebec for safety. Due to Britain's power, of the oceans with the most powerful navy in the world, they were able to re-supply their Quebec command post in the late Spring of 1760. SEPTEMBER 1760- The governor of Quebec- Governor Vaudreuil, surrendered all of France's North American empire to Britain. NEW FRANCE WAS NOW A BRITISH COLONY
