Oligonucleotides
What?
Oligonucleotides are used to stop the genes that are causing a disease in the body. There are multiple ways to do this.
-
How?
Ex 1. - antisense is used to stop the harmful gene from copying itself and creating more harmful genes.
Ex 2. - the use of RNA to tell the cell to stop doing specific things, which stops the processes created by mRNA, stopping the harmful gene from reproducing.

What is Gene Therapy?
Gene therapy is adding new genes into a patient’s cells to eradicate, fight, or stop a disease. Gene(s) can be put in a cell using a “vector”. The most common vectors used are viruses. The viruses are changed to make them safe, but the risk factor still exists as gene therapy is still new.
What are vectors?
Gene therapy carriers are known as vectors. Vectors deliver the genes to the cells. This works for genetically disabled viruses such as adenoviruses and non-viral vectors such as liposomes.
Pros and Cons
Cons
This material is relatively new, so there isn't enough information to know the risks of gene therapy
