Ecology
Food Chains
Trophic Levels
Primary Consumer - Consumes the Producer
Secondary Consumer - Consumes the Primary Consumer
Producer - Absorbs energy from the sun
Energy is lost after every trophic level (only about 10% transfered)
This is because organisms are usually larger going up the food chain
Consumers don't consume all the energy either due to it being used for respiration
Also, There arent the same amount of organisms on each trophic level
Definitions
Community
all the organisms in a habitat
Population
the number of organisms of a certain species in a certain area
habitat
The natural home of an organism
Ecosystem
the living organisms in an area and all the factors that effect them
Practical: counting the populations of plants in an area
Quadrats thrown randomly around the area (random number generator can be used)
Count the amount of plants in the quadrat
Calculate a mean of the organism in the area
