1.Truman
Cold War- he introduced the Truman Doctrine to provide aid to Greece and Turkey in an effort to protect them from communist aggression
Civil Rights- issued two Executive Orders banning segregation in the armed forces and guaranteeing fair employment practices in the civil service
Fair Deal- His Fair Deal recommended that all Americans have health insurance, that the minimum wage (the lowest amount of money per hour that someone can be paid) be increased, and that, by law, all Americans be guaranteed equal rights.

McCarthyism is that a man said that there were russians spies all over the US so they started the Red Scare meaning they were goign to hunt all of them. At the end they were lies and everyone went against him. Eisenhower-ignored him

3.Kennedy
Civil Rights- Kennedy defined the civil rights crisis as moral, as well as constitutional and legal. He announced that major civil rights legislation would be submitted to the Congress to guarantee equal access to public facilities, to end segregation in education, and to provide federal protection of the right to vote.
Space Race- President John F. Kennedy began a dramatic expansion of the U.S. space program and committed the nation to the ambitious goal of landing a man on the moon by the end of the decade. In 1957, the Soviet Union launched the satellite Sputnik, and the space race was on.

Great Society/Civil rights- The main goal was the total elimination of poverty and racial injustice.
Cold war- foreign affairs, Johnson's presidency was dominated by the Cold War and the Vietnam War. ... He was nonetheless committed to a policy of containment, and he escalated the U.S. presence in Vietnam in order to stop the spread of Communism in Southeast Asia during the Cold War.
Tax Cuts-Increase the spending on Vietnam war and the Great Society without raising the taxes leading to inflation

Inflation-He cut spending and raised taxes, reduce consumer spending by raising interest rates, 90-day freeze on wages and rizes and then issued federal regulations on limiting wage and price increase. He left the new president to deal with it.
Watergate-Nixon's Committee to Re-Elect the President (known derisively as CREEP) broke into the Democratic National Committee's Watergate headquarters, stole copies of top-secret documents and bugged the office's phones
Cold war-Nixon ended American involvement in the Vietnam War, and his administration succeeded in achieving a negotiated settlement. Nixon became the first U.S. president to visit the People's Republic of China, taking advantage of the Sino-Soviet split and significantly altering the nature of the Cold War.
Energy Crisis-He responded by initiating "Project Independence," which aimed for the US to meet its own energy needs "without depending on any foreign energy sources" by 1980.
6.Ford
Inflation- After Nixon left him with the inflation problem he decided to create the plan WIN (Whip Inflation Now) Americans had to reduce their use of oil and gas and take steps to conserve energy.The plan had a little impact. He tried later but failed to revive the economy.
Energy Crisis- OPEC banned the the export of oil at the same time lowering overall oil production within their countries causing decrease of petroleum. This embargo caused a major energy crisis in the US where the gas cost rose drastical. He proposed a plan to that would reduce US dependence on foreign oil and make the US energy independent by 1985

7.Carter
Iran Contra-The United States had long supported Iran’s monarch, the Shah, because Iran was a major oil supplier and a buffer against Soviet expansion in the Middle East. • The Shah however had become increasingly unpopular. • In 1979 he was forced to flee and an Islamic republic was then declared. • The new regime, led by religious leader Ayatollah Khomeini, distrusted the U.S. because of its support of the Shah.• In November 1979, revolutionaries stormed the American embassy in Tehran and took 52 American hostages.
Energy Crisis-He believed the nations worst problem was the independence on the oil industry. He proposed a national program to conserve oil and to promote the use of coal and renewable energy sources such as solar power.He asked Americans to lower energy consumption.
Civil Rights-President Carter earned the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his many humanitarian initiatives. He became the second Georgian to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The first was Martin Luther King, Jr.
Inflation- The public blamed Carter for high prices while Reagan benefited from their long decline after 1980. Carter's appointees to the Federal Communications Commission also helped bring inflation down
Extra- Elections Ford vs Carter- Carter had no political experience in Washington, promised to restore honesty and to build new programs to help the economy. Ford said Carter was liberal whose social programs would increase inflation
8.Reagan

Reaganomics/Tax cuts- He cut government spendings, cut income taxes and capital gain taxes, cut regulations in business, and cut the expansion of money supply
Iran Contra-This involved high officials in the Reagan administration secretly selling arms to Iran (in return for the release of Western hostages in the Middle East) and illegally using the proceeds to finance the Contra rebels in Nicaragua.
