Contractual
Intellectual property
Intellectual property is the thoughts and ideas made by an individual or game developer. This could involve ideas for characters, concept, theme etc...These ideas being taken without permission would be known as copyright
Sub-contracting
This is when a contract is made and signed for another contract. Sub contracts are made usually to reduce the project risks or costs.
Proposals and Treatments
Throughout development, the client is able to make a proposal to the developer, meaning that he can suggest a difference which could be made to the project. Depending on the technological ability and time remaining, the developer may accept.
Negotiating Contracts
This is when the client and developer are able to discuss and change the contract to both their convenience. This includes the pay and timeline being negotiated.
Commissioning Process
This is when the assets are monitored to make sure that they are all in working order (maintained). This ensures that the technology can be used effectively.
Scheduling
Throughout game development, the developers will be remembering the potential release date of the project, meaning development needs to be completed before then. Managing the schedule effectively can be done by creating a Gantt Chart, were every necessary task has an estimated amount of time taken.
Risk Management
Within a workplace, all the offices will have risks, and these would be looked over to make sure they do not cause harm. An effective way of risk management is to create a risk assessment, which points out all the possible causes of harm.
Types of Contracts
A lot of different legal documents are available, which provide different work procedures throughout development. This can include written and verbal contracts, as these two are agreed on differently (one needing signature and one doesn't)
Working to a Brief
During development, the developer will be following the clients intellectual property. The client would have designed a brief for the developer to follow, meaning the game has to suit particular criteria.
Costing and Budget
Throughout game development, the assets required will cost money, as hardware and software will be needed to make a successful game. Also staff and office will be needed as well.
Copyright
This is when one person develops someone else's intellectual property, resulting in legal action, as they would be gaining profits from someone else's ideas.
