Definition
An inflammation of the eyelid that affects eye lashes or tear production.
Causes
It is caused by bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus

Pathophysiology
The pathophysiology of blepharitis frequency involves bacterial colonization of the eyelids. This results in direct microbial invasion of tissues, immune system- mediated damage caused by the production of bacterial toxins ,waste products and enzymes.
Medical management
Topical Antibiotics and Steroids are used.
Nursing management
Cleaning the lid margin with bicarbonate of soda solution on a cotton wool bud.
The Scalp and eyebrows should be treated with anti-dandruff shampoo.
Health education
Keeping eyelids clean.
Remove all eye makeup before bedtime.
Do not use eyeliner on the back edges of your eyelids behind the lashes.
