Spinal cord disorders.
Cervical myelopathy.
Definition.
It is a common degenerative condition caused by compression of the spinal cord that is clumsiness in hands and gait imbalance.
Pathophysiology.
This involves the compressive forces on the spine due to a combination of static factors and dynamic factors causing repetitive trauma.
Intervertebral discs loose elasticity and hydration due to loss of proteoglycan matrix, with age which predispose the disc to collapse as a result of biomechanical incompetence.
