Side effects
UTIs and bronchitis
Nausea and dizziness

Stomach upset and diarrhea
Respiratory tract infections and pneumonia

Nursing considerations
Assess patient fo low bone mass during the therapy
Monitor signs and symptoms of anaphylactic reactions
Hypocalcemia and vitamin D deficiency should be treated before initiating ibandronate therapy
Discontinue injection immediately
and begin supportive treatment if symptoms occur
Contraindications
Hypocalcemia
Abnormalities of the esophagus
Inability to stand or sit for at least 60 minutes
Hypersensitivity to ibandronate
Mechanism of action
Its actions on bone tissue is based on its affinity for hydroxyapatite
Group of bisphosphonate class of drugs
Inhibits bone reabsorption via actions on osteoclasts activity and turnover
Indications
Reduce the incidence of vertebral fracture
Increases bone mineral density
Treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women
Route of administration
Orally
Intravenously
Storage conditions
Store away from sunlight and moisture
Store at room temperature between 25 to 30 degrees
