Week 7 Schizophernia
Auditory Hallucinations
- hearing something in the absence of external stimulus
think it is external to person experiencing
musical, sound
Negative Symptoms
- something is taken away
Lack of avolition (lack of motivation to do anything
diminished emotional expression
Occur in isolation of other psychotic disorders
associated with intoxication - alcohol, amphetamine, cannabis,cocaine, hallucinogens, inhalants, opioids, PCP, sedatives
withdrawals from eg alcohol
signs
excessive sleepiness, social withdrawal, apparent indifference, drug or alcohol abuse, low tolerance to irritation, decline in performance, irrational statements, bizarre behaviour
Delusions
- fixed belief that is not amenable to change, incongruent with societal norms
persecutory, referential, comment etc directed, Grandiose,
Erotomanic () Nilhilistic (the end of the world), Thought withdrawal or insertion.
Cognitive Deficits
Working memory, attention, executive functioning, learning
Thought Disorder
organising ideas, reflected in speech, disorganised speech, loose association or derailment
Intervention

Illusions
Thought Disorder
Onset in late teens or early 20's, females later, menopause or post partum
Diagnosis
: 2 or more of the following, at least one needs to be 1,2 or 3:
1.Delusions
Hallucinations
disorganised speech
Grossly disorganised or catatonic behaviour
Negative Symptoms
*Disturbed functioning in one or more: work,interpersonal, self-care (or lower than it was before.
Schizophrena 2 -6 months- active for one month
Schizoaffective Disorder - associated with mood disorder.
Visual Hallucinations
- rare in schizo
