McKenzie Approach LBP
Subjective Examination
-
Occupation = time spent on tasks, posture changes in normal day
-
Onset - How long ago, change in pain, exacerbations, self mx, cause
-
-
-
-
-
Objective Examination
-
-
-
-
Extension: Increases pain with ZAJ degen, ext dysfuntion, spondylolisthesis or ant. derangement
Lateral Glide: Combines rotation and lat flexion; Examined in standing, patient asked to move shoulders and pelvis simultaneously in opposite directions while keeping shoulders parallel to ground
-
Repeat movement and assess response. If increased symptoms with repeated movements - discourage movement. If decreased symptoms with movement - encourage movement
Test Movements
-
-
-
-
-
Flex- Standing Vs. Lying: Standing tests normal stress to normal or abnormal tissue; Lying tests passive stress applied by patient to normal or abnormal tissue
-
-
-
-
-
If after 3 days of mechanical assessment no repeated end range movements or postural loading can be found to reduced or centralise symptoms, patient is unsuitable for mechanical treatment
