Check Lists
Why do I need one?
Having a comprehensive checklist is a fail-safe to ensure you don't let anything you need to do fall through the cracks.
-
SMART
Specific
The more information you can put into your plan, the better. This way you'll leave less to interpretation, and therefore be more likely to accomplish everything you need to.
Measurable
You want to be able to see yourself making progress, otherwise you'll basically just be treading water.
Attainable
There's a reason your checklist doesn't just say "do the trip." Take smaller bites to get ready, and it'll be done in no time.
Relevant
Keep you planning to the things that really matter. If you're planning a Saharan crossing, you don't need to have a plan for frostbite.
Time
Be aware of your deadlines. Don't procrastinate, don't slack on what you need to do.
reverse planning
It can be useful to start planning from when the trip begins, and work your way back to the present. This can help prevent getting hung up on one aspect of the plan.
Logistics is the coordination of a detailed plan involving people, places, dates and times, equipment and supplies.
Every expedition requires logistical planning, and the longer it is, the more people involved in it, the farther you go, the more you need to make it work, all of these will increase the size and depth of the planning.
