Male

testes produce sperm in the seminiferous tubules that are in each testis

scrotum - sac suspended between thighs where testes are housed

epidisymus - store sperm while they mature and become motile

vas deferens - receives sperm and fluid from the epididymus

seminal vesicles - 2 small pouch like tubes that have glandular lining that produces thick yellow fluid rich in sugar

ejaculatory duct - 2 short tubes formed from union of vas deferens and seminal vesicles

prostate gland - donut shaped gland that produces secretion that increases sperm mobility and neutralizes acidity in vagina during ejaculation

cowpers gland - located under the prostate

urethra - carry both urine and semen

penis - external male organ - deposit semen in vagina and elimination of urine

epididymitis - inflammation of the epididymus

orchitis - inflammation of the testes usually caused by mumps, pathogens, injury and can cause sterility

prostatic hypertrophy, enlargement of the prostate gland, common in men over 50

prostate cancer - can cave same symptoms as BPH or none at all

testicular cancer - cancer of the testes, usually in men 20-35

Female

ovaries - the female gonads

fallopian tubes - 2 tubes, 5 inches long, attached to the upper part of the uterus

uterus - hollow, muscular pear shaped organ, allows growth and development of fetus

vagina - muscular tube connects cervix of uterus to outside of body

bartholins gland - each side of vaginal opening

vulva - external genitalia

mons veneris - triangular pad of fat

labia majora - 2 large folds of fatty tissue that enclose and protect the vagina

labia minora - 2 small hairless folds

breasts/mammary glands - secretion of milk

breast tumors

cancer of cervix - can be detected by a pap smear

endometriosis - abnormal tissue growth of endometrial tissue outside uterus

ovarian cancer - common cause of cancer death in women

pelvic inflammatory disease - inflammation of the cervix, endometrium, and fallopian tubes

PMS - premenstrual syndrome, 3-14 days before menstruation

STD's

AIDS - acquired immune deficiency syndrome, caused by HIV, attacks immune system so its unable to fight off disease and eventually causes death

chlamydia - one of the most frequent STDs

gonorrhea - called "the clap", caused by gonococcus bacterium Neisseria gonorrhea

herpes - viral infection caused by herpes simplex virus

pubic lice - parasites usually transmitted sexually and can spread

syphilis - caused by spirochete bacterium
