Organisation of Skill
Open Skill = affected by unpredictable change in environment, performed differently everytime, requires decisions, variation of skills EG. passing in football
Closed Skill = predictable, not affected by environment, performed the same everytime, repetition of same action EG. front crawl in swimming
Gross Skill = large muscle movements, major body movements, uses power, speed and endurance EG. weight lifting
Fine Skill = small muscle movements, small body movements, uses speed and accuracy, hand-eye coordination EG. darts
Self-paced Skill = performer controls rate and decides when to start, more closed skills EG. serve in tennis
Externally-paced Skill = actions determined by external source, involves performer's reaction times EG. start of 100m sprint
Discrete Skill = clear start and end, short, low effort, if it is repeated it has to be from start EG. kicking a football
Serial Skill = number of discrete skills, specific order, each movement is both a stimulus and a response EG. triple jump
Continuous Skill = long, no clear start or end, end of one movement is the start of another, repetition EG. front crawl in swimming
