It was inevitable that France would join the war. The French and the Russians had been in a military alliance for some time.Germany declared war on Russia on August 1st 1914 when Russia refused to demobilize its army. The Germans knew that Russia would take longer to defeat, so France was the main target.

France's economy after World War 1 was ruined. it was mainly because of the wreck of agriculture land and losing manpower for production.
The war against Germany at the western front was fought mainly in France, which caused a drop in economy.

They did this in the fear of not being taken seriously anymore, due to their already-low prestige following the Russo-Japanese war
The Russians were essentially the first to mobilize, even before Serbia had responded to Austria's ultimatum. Their pressure also pushed many other powers to war.
