The issue/s presented in the book is people declining Refugees by locking them up by countries who think they are illegal immigrants. Also their government is corrupted so they committed cruel things that made refugees escape their own country.
Nazis and the German people who want to get rid of all jews and start a riot,causing some Jews that had the chance to flee Germany and find somewhere new to live.Many of the stories in the book were told by a kid's point of view.
