DRUGS AFFECTING KIDNEY AND RENAL FUNCTIONING
IBUPROFEN(Propionic acids)
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Blocks two enzymes, cyclooxygenase1 and 2 in all tissues.
Inhibit prostaglandin synthesis and exert its anti-inflamatory agents
Act directly on thermoregulatory cells in thehypothalamus.
INDICATIONS
Relief of signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthitis.
Relief of mild to moderate pain.
Treat primary dysmenorrhea.
Helps in fever reduction.
It is used in the treatment of influenza.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Peptic ulcer or known GI bleeding.
Pregnancy or lactation, potential adverse effect on neonate and mother.
Renal or hepatic dysfunction, can alter metabolism and excretion.
CV dysfunction or hypertention, varying effect of prostaglandins
SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea and vomiting
Dizziness,headache and nervousness
Decreased appetite
Mild pyrosis
STORAGE
At room temperature, between 15 to 30 degrees C
ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION
ORAL
THIAZIDE DIURETICS( hydrochlorothiazide)
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Causes active pumping out of chloride from the cells lining ascending limb of loop of henle by blocking tubules
Since sodium passively moves with chloride to maintain electrically neutrality, both are excreted in the urine.
INDICATIONS
First line drugs for management of of hypertention
Milder form ofdiuretics compared to loop diuretics
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Severe renal failure, anuria and may prevent diuretics from functioning.
Fluids and electrolyte imbalance.
Allergy to loop diuretics, prevent severe sensitivity reactions.
Can precitipate renal failure because as diseases causes changes in glomerular filtration
STORAGE
Avoid moist or damp area
Store between temperature of 20 and 25 degrees celcius
SIDE EFFECTS
Vission problems
Dry mouth, thirst, nausea and vomiting
nNumbness or tingly feeling
Peeling skin rash
arrythmias
