Gender plays a role in what topics you bring up. For example, women often talk about relationships, family, and friends. Men usually talk about sports, night life and technology.
Reasons for Communicating: both men and women use communication to build and stabilize healthy relationships. Also another common reason is to solve problems. if you have bad communication skills, you wont be able to solve the problems you have.
Social factors: Men have been looked at as the provider between the two genders and women have picked up the more nurturing role. Men are found that they have a more clear and decisive way of communication which, when used right, can be very beneficial to good lasting relationships.

Personal Connection: My friends who are a different race than me, always use the word "cuffed". "He's Cuffed. She's cuffed. I want to be cuffed." I am like what does that mean?? I initially thought it was being handcuffed because that's the only way I heard that word but it means dating. In their group and culture they have their own slang which I had to get used to .
