Having the ability to ride well meant that the Plains Indians were able to hunt the buffalo with ease. It was important that the indians could hunt the buffalo because it was their primary resource. All food and equipment came from the buffalo. The indians were expert archers this meant that they could kill the buffalo
The soil on the plains was not fertile and their was low rainfall so it was not suitable for farming. The plains lacked building materials such as wood and stone. Therefore the Plains Indians developed a lifestyle based around following the buffalo rather than living in fixed farming communities. The tipi helped with the nomadic lifestyle as it could be collapsed quickly and turned into a travois/trailer.This helped them keep mobile and follow the buffalo herds.
