Interests of Aragon in Mediterranean meant that Ferdinand was concerned about any expansion of the Ottoman Turks into the western Mediterranean
Spain, along with Portugal helped Naples against a Turkish invasion, expelling Turks from Otranto
1501- naval and military force under Cordoba helped Venice to regain the Castle of St George, capital of the Island of Cephalonia, from the Turks
North Africa
Isabella wanted crusade against Islam in Africa
Series of assaults between 1505-1509 captured Mers-el-Kebir, Cazaza, Penon de Velez and Oran
1510- Bougie, Algiers and Tripoli added to Spain's North African possessions, extending chain of coastal cities controlled by Spain along north Africa coast from Atlantic to Libya
1510- Attack on Djerba failed and after then Ferdinand decided he achieved enough to secure interest in region
