Prior to World War 1, Great Britain was the richest, largest and most dominant imperial power. They occupied one quarter of the whole world, with nations such as Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka, and several more. They focused on maintaining and expanding trade, importation and selling goods. Their power was reinforced by their large and powerful navy. France was also another powerful imperialist nation. They had taken over countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, some Pacific islands and numerous wet and north-west African colonies.
