Qualifications
Aged 18-75 (Criminal Justice Courts Act 2015)
On the electoral role
Lived in the UK at least 5 years (since 13)
A person on bail cannot be on the jury
Juries are randomly selected from members of the public by the Central Summoning Bureau.
They are independent from the Judge following
Bushell's Case (1670)
Juries are the only ones in the case to decide on the facts and the judge cannot challenge their decision
Jury trials take place in only 2% of criminal cases
Disqualifications
A person is
NEVER
allowed to be on the jury if they have ever been sentenced to:

Imprisonment of 5 years or more

Protect the public
2.
Detention at Her Majesty's pleasure
5.
Extended sentence
1.
Life imprisonment
A person is disqualified for
10 years
if they have been sentenced to:
1.
Imprisonment
2.
Suspended sentence
3.
Community order
