Biology - EoY9
Cells
Eukaroyotic
More advance larger form of cell and have a membrane bound nucleus. It also has organelles all with their own specific purpose and are membrane - bound.
-
-
Prokaryotic
Simpler older type of cell. Has its DNA floating around in the Cytoplasm in the Nucleoid and Plasmids. Only has ribosomes. It also has a cell wall to give it support
Specialised
Specialised cells are cells who's shape or structure has been changed in order for them to carry out a certain job

Stem Cells
-
There are two types
Embryonic Stem Cells
Can differentiate into any kind of cell. Pluripotent. However to get them, you have to kill the embroyo
Adult Stem Cells
Found in Bone Marrow however are multipotency so can only become bone, skin and blood
Culturing Microbes
Sterilisation
-
Can use heat, chemicals or gamma rays

Organisation
The Digestive system
-
Pancreas produces protease, amylase and lipase
-
-
Stomach pummels food, produces protease, pepsin. It also produces HCL to kill bacteria and give the right pH or the protease enzyme
Salivary glands produce amylase which breaks down the starch into maltose. The teeth mechanically breaks down the food to increase it's surface area
-
-
Enzymes are natural catalysts which increases the speed of the reaction without being changed or used up
Enzymes work like a lock and key, They work on a specific reaction due to their active site. Only one type of substrate will fit into the active site, The correct substrate will fit into the enzyme and allow the substrate to break it down into its different products. These are released and the enzyme can be used again
