Traction
Sediment rolls along, pushed by waves and currents
Pebbles, cobbles & boulders
Saltation
Sediment bounces along, either due to the force of the water or the wind

Gravity Settling
This occurs when the energy of transporting water becomes too low to move sediment; large sediment is deposited first followed by smaller sediment.
Flocculation
This is a depositional process that is important for small particles, such as clay, which are so small they remain suspended in water. The particles clump together due to electrical or chemical attraction and become large enough to sink.

Sediment cell concept
A sediment cell is a largely self-contained stretch of coastline. They are regarded as closed systems as sediment is not usually transferred from one to the other. In reality, some sediment does get transferred between neighbouring cells. Each sediment major cell typically has many smaller sub-cells.
