Gender roles
Biologically, men have always been the disposable gender.
Take for example, two tribes. Each has eleven people. On the top, we have one man and ten women. On the bottom, we have one woman and ten men.
With one woman and ten men, the woman can only have one child per man, giving us one child per cycle. Nothing substantial is gained with the excess men.
-
With one man and ten women, the man can fertilize all ten women about every 9 months, giving us ten new children for each cycle.
Now imagine a conflict. for each woman that is lost, we have a significant drop in the number of children.
However, for every man that is lost, there is no reduction in the number of children that can be produced.
This inherently devalues the lives of men, as any tribe that loses a man in conflict has lost little, but any woman that is lost costs the tribe greatly.

Men were the breadwinners. Women were the housekeepers. This dynamic allows all work a typical family needs done, to get done.
A man can typically work jobs that need endurance and strength for extended periods of time without complaint so long as there's a reason to.
However, men have a knack for violence, and often in the past have shown an exceedingly sadistic and imaginative use of it.
-
A woman can typically understand other's thoughts and feelings and determine a good course of action. It's been noted that in history, women have held an important place in managing relationships.
However, woman have a terrible knack for using this ability to destroy lives through these connections.

Accountability
One thing I've learned is that accountability is all important. And ironically, you are accountable for the actions of another, by virtue of you being human like them. Denying this leaves you susceptible to the same actions as that other.
It isn't enough to say that something is under another person's preview, that it isn't your responsibility.

Infinite Complexity
One of the few things I've learned to be universally true is that the world is so hopelessly complex that nothing can ever be fully understood. No question is ever simple, nothing is ever straightforward, and your answer is never just right.

All of these statements and thoughts are based around my own observations and experience in the USA.
The advent of birth control has created a new paradigm, but we have yet to establish rules.

Conflict is dangerous for either of these tribes, but the effects of conflict differ drastically over generations.
