In order to be able to bring off this type of leadership, it is imperative that the leader has a very good understanding of their organisation and the people within it. They must understand elements such as: capacity for change; the strengths and weaknesses of the organisation, and the type of individual that such an organisation tends to attract. It is very different from charismatic forms of leadership in which the personality of the leader tends to dominate (Shamir, House, & Arthur, 1993), instead focusing on the complex alignment of main idea + leadership + personnel.
