MICROBIAL GROWTH
ASCOMYCOTA
NUTRIENT
- These organisms obtain their nutrition from different sources ranging from dead and decaying matter to nutrition from compounds synthesized by other organisms
TEMPERATURE
- Extremes in temperature and humidity, including the Arctic, the Antarctic, deserts, and mountaintops
CULTURE MEDIUM
- Growing easily on media containing 10% glucose or 12–17% NaCl.
-
EXAMPLES
- Yeast, Verticillium, Pezizomycotina, Laboulbeniales, Monascus, Aspergillus nidulans
OXYGEN
- Yeasts have hitherto-unidentified oxygen requirements for growth.
WATER
- Require a minimum water activity of 0.85
ZYGOMYCOTA
EXAMPLES
- Mucorales, Zoopagomycotina
CULTURE MEDIUM
- Grow rapidly on fungal media such as Sabouraud dextrose agar incubated at 25° to 30° C
-
-
WATER
- It is expressed in millimeters per year or in m3/ha per year (1 mm = 10 m3/ha).
OXYGEN
- Low oxygen concentrations of 3.6 kPa to as low as 2 kPa
NUTRIENT
- Obtains nutrients from living organisms
DEUTEROMYCOTA
TEMPERATURE
- High temperatures and high relative humidity
-
NUTRIENT
- Absorbs nutrients from the aboveground tissues of its hosts
EXAMPLES
- Hyphomycetes, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium chrysogenum, Aspergillus oryzae, Coelomycetes
OXYGEN
- Capable of growth at low oxygen tensions
CULTURE MEDIUM
- Potato dextrose agar (PDA)
WATER
- Minimum available water requirements range between 0.85 and 0.88
BASIDIOMYCOTA
-
WATER
- 44-55% of the weight of the fruits bodies of the culture at that time
-
NUTRIENT
- A Bosporus fruit bodies must obtain their nutrients from compost
CULTURE MEDIUM
- It can be grown using potato dextrose agar media
-
CHYTRIDIOMYCOTA
-
TEMPERATURE
- Growth maximal at 17-25 C
NUTRIENT
- Nitrogen sources strongly influenced the growth
CULTURE MEDIUM
- Grew on autoclaved snakeskin and 1 percent keratin agar, but grew best in tryptone peptonized milk and didn't require additional sugars when grown in tryptone.
EXAMPLES
- Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis
