KIDNEY AND RENAL FUNCTION DRUGS
Indapamide ( Thiazide )
Mechanism of action
Blocks re-arbsoption of H2O, Na and K, at cortical diluting segement of distal tubule
indications
Hypertension
Edema
Nursing conderations
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to sulfonamide- derived drugs
Anuria
Renal decompansation
Pregnancy
Side effects
Fatigue
Headache
Insomia
Storage
Stored at room temperature avoiding heat
route of administration
Tabletes taken orally
Acetazolamide ( carbonic anhydrase inhibitor)
Mechanism of action
Reduces formation of hydrogen and carbonate ions from CO2 and H2O bt inhibiting proximal renal tubule , promoting renal excretion of Na, K, H2O and Bicarbonate
indications
Drug induced edema
Chronic simple Glaucoma
Diuressis in CHF
Nursing conderations
Contraindications
Loss of apetite
Drowsiness, dizziness
Depression
Storage
Oral dosages forms stored and unopened injection at room temperature
Reconstituted solutions for injection store up 12 hours at room temp, 3 days under refrigeration
Side effects
loss of apetite
Drowsiness, diziness
altered taste
Nausea
route of administration
Direct I.V injection, also taken orally
Metolazone (Quinazoline thiazide like), antihypertensive
Mechanism of action
Blocks re-absorption of Na, K , and Cl at distal convulated tubule, increasing renal excreation of Na AND H2O
indications
Hypertension
Edema
Nursing conderations
Contraindications
Anuria
Hepatic coma
Allergic to sulfonamide- derived drugs.
Side effects
Dizziness
Headache
light- headeness
Storage
Stored at room temperature , protect from light
route of administration
Taken orally
Bumetanide ( Loop diuretic )
Mechanism of action
Enhances excretion of Na, Cl, and to lesser degree, K, by direct action at ascending limb of loop of Henhlen and Proxiamal tubule
indications
Edema
Hypertension
Nursing conderations
Contraindications
Severe electrolyte
:Anuria,
Hepatic coma
Side effects
Dizziness
headache
Orthostatic hypotension
Anorexia
route of administration
I.V infusion and taken orally
Storage
Store vials at room temperature, protect from light
