Major Functions of the Reproductive System
Reproduction: The process by which new individual (offspring) of a species is produced
Sexual Reproduction:
reproduction involving 2 (male and female)parents.
-Each one contributes half of the genetic material
Fertilization:
The fusion of egg and sperm cells to form the zygote
Gonads: the primary sex organs which produce specialized cells called gametes (sex cells)
Testes:
Primary sex organ of the male
-Produces sperm
Ovaries:
Primary Sex organ of the female
-Produces Ova or egg

Ductus System:
Delivery of male gamete (Sperm). Collection of tubes where the sperm travels

Covering of the Testes:
-Tunica Albuginea: Capsule surrounding the testes (outer layer)
-Septa: Extension of the capsule that extends into testes and divide it into tubules
-Divided into two lobules by the septa
-Each lobule contains one to four seminiferous tubules
-Tightly coiled structures
-The tubules is where the sperm is produced
