Classification and biodiversity
Phylogenetic classification
Phylogenetic trees, further up you go, the further in time, it shows species that have similar traits and branches represent common ancestors.
Biological classification has taxon, Domain, kingdom, phylum, class order, family, genus, species.
We classify because it allows us to infer evolutionary relationships, predict traits.
Three domain system
Eubacteria
Archea
Eukaryota
Five kingdom
Prokaryota, bacteria
Protoctista, some only one cell.
Fungi
Plantae
Animalia
Homologous structures/ Relatedness in species
Pentadactyl limb of the vertebrate
Convergent evolution
DNA sequences/Immunology
Species
Reproductive definition , a hybrid is possible
morphological definition, if they look similar they are likely to be in the same species.
Binomial naming system is Genus(capital), species.
Biodiversity is the number of species , and the number of organisms within each species.
Can change, succession, natural selection, human influence
Medicine from plants, food raw material.
