During Jefferson's presidency the western frontier extended and jefferson sent ministers to france to negotiate for some land of the louisiana territory but ended getting all of it for 15 million

Seized merchant ships in the mdeiterrainan jefferson refused to pay the tribute demanded and instead sent a fleet of nay ships to fight them

Jefferson persuaded congress to pass the embargo act and prohibited american merchant ships from sailing to foreign ports
