- - - - John Brown's rebellion started what looked to be a blame game between the North and the South. The rebellion divided the two sides even more with violence and brutality, the first signs of a possible war.
  - - - California as admitted as a free soil state where slavery was prohibited. However, fugitive slave laws became even more stronger, now requiring every citizen to help return slaves to their masters. Many people in the North were outraged at this and continued to help slaves escape. Going against the law only dug the North and South into a deeper hole.
  - - - The North saw a new side of slavery. They used the book as more evidence and reason to abolish slavery. The book shows the horrors the North hadn't been exposed to. The South didn't take it any better claiming the book was inaccurate and over exaggerated.
  - - - The rebellion showed the south that slaves were not content or too weak/uneducated to rebel against authorities and it made their fears a reality. Slave rebellions had been a long time fear of the South and the fear would heighten after Nat Turner's Rebellion.
- - - - The election gave a new power to the Republicans and with that, the southern states seceded starting with South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. Eleven more states would follow.
  - - - The Democratic party divided across sectional lines and the Whig and Free-Soil party disappeared. However, this gave rise to the Republican party made of Democrats, Whigs, and members of the Free-Soil party. This new party would fight for free-soil rights and an end to slavery. It could become the south's greatest fear and worry.
- - - - The South was a huge economic factor in America. At one point, the South made over 50% of the worlds cotton. Plantations and cotton made America tons of money and losing them was not ideal for the North.The South influenced America's and the world's trade.
- - - - However, slavery also had a big political impact. Because it was a contradicting question impacted everyone, it was the main topic of debate in congress, in the elections, and in court. It was the reason for the Compromise of 1820 and the Compromise of 1850 because congress couldn't decide what states would be free or slave states. In the election of 1860, the main topic of debate and the main reason for people voting was the people's opinion on slavery.
        
        And maybe one of the biggest factors, social factors. Slavery was the cause for both Nat Turner's Rebellion and John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry. The reaction to Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe was explosive and cause a chaotic reaction from both sides, dividing them even more. The fight for sectional need and beliefs was up to the person and their onion as people's perceptions of slavery were the reason for all Economic and political impacts.
