Rise of Hitler Jan 1933
Hitler's Rise to power
- After the wall Street Crash people started losing confidence once again. All of a sudden they were back to square 1 after the war.
Some turned to communists or extreme parties like the NSDAP. Wealthy business men financed campaigns and propaganda for Hitler.
- Hindenburg dismissed Bruning and appointed Van Papen as chancellor.
-
In 1933: Hindenburg and Von Papen realised they needed the NSDAP on their side - Hitler.
- They tried to do so by offering Hitler a vice- chancellor roll. Hitler did not want it he demanded to be made chancellor instead.
- Thinking they were controlling Hitler they agreed. They did not realise Hitler was actually controlling them...
- Hitler became chancellor and made a lot of changes to the government.

The Munich Putsch - 1923
It was an attempt to overthrow the government by the NSDAP ( Hitler) and two other nationalist politicians. The SA were ready with over 3,000 members
The day before the attack, the politicians backed out of the plan and decided to cancel. Hitler was furious and therefore, showed up with SA soldiers to threaten them into submission.
The day of the attack. Hitler went into Munich hoping to overthrow the government. Police men etc. were there, prepared. Both politicians betrayed Hitler and told the government about the plan.
Hitler was sentenced to 5 years in prison although only stayed for 9 months. He was seen as a strong nationalist trying to protect Germany
During this time he wrote 'Mein Kampf' and realised the only way he could really overthrow the government was by infiltrating it not by force or revolution.
