Infective Conditions
Pneumonia
-
Pathophysiology
The development of pneumonia requires that a pathogen reach the alveoli and that the host defenses are overwhelmed by microorganism virulence or by the inoculum size.
-
-
Signs And Symptoms
-
-
Cough, which may produce phlegm
-
Fever, sweating and shaking chills

Acute Bronchitis
-
Definition
It is an inflammation of the lining of your bronchial tubes, which carry air to and from your lungs.
Pathophysiology
the cells of the bronchial-lining tissue are irritated and the mucous membrane becomes hyperemic and edematous, diminishing bronchial mucociliary function. Consequently, the air passages become clogged by debris and irritation increases.
-
Signs and Symptoms
-
Production of mucus (sputum), which can be clear, white, yellowish-gray or green in color — rarely, it may be streaked with blood

Pleurisy
-
Definition
is a condition in which the pleura a membrane consisting of a layer of tissue that lines the inner side of the chest cavity and a layer of tissue that surrounds the lungs becomes inflamed
Pathophysiology
occurs when the pleura becomes irritated and inflamed. As a result, the two layers of the pleural membrane rub against each other like two pieces of sandpaper, producing pain when you inhale and exhale. The pleuritic pain lessens or stops when you hold your breath.
Signs and Symptoms
Chest pain that worsens when you breathe, cough or sneeze
