- - - - Most Christians see Jesus' resurrection as a unique event. Jesus said himself that anyone who He raised from the dead would return to death in the future. He also preached that we can reach eternal life and salvation through God's grace and power. Believed by Caths and Orthodox.
      - Supported by St Paul 1 Corinthians 15:44 'It was sown a physical body, but raised a spiritual body'. This is the first account of Resurrection.
      - Walked through locked doors, Lazarus was not an eternal Resurrection, symbolic of everlasting life. On the road to Emmaus (Luke 24) some followers did not recognise him, Mary Magedline did not recognise him.
      - This supports dualism, and so is compatible with mainstream Christian belief.
    - - The Catholic (& Orthdox) churches teaching of resurrection is based o the writings of Augustine. Augustine believed that the Fall (Genesis 3) affected the whole of humanity in every aspect of their lives. God's grace is the only way the be delivered from eternal punishment. Christ rose form the dead and ascended to heaven in a wholly physical way.
      - The Gospel states that the tombs where empty. Jesus' friends knew that they where speaking to Jesus, even after they had seen him die on the cross. or He has risen.
      - Supported by the writings of Augustine, who believed that sin physical affects as well as just spiritual, therefore there must be a bodily resurrection.
        Augustine wrote in the City Of God, 'the earthly body of Christ was received up into heaven.' Since Jesus was resurrected in a spiritual way, so must we.
      - Why up till 1963 Cath Church did not allow cremations.
