Political
Compromise of 1850
There was lots of discussion and debates about California wanting to become a free state. Congress was a big mess because of all of the arguments. This led to making a state law that includes denying slaves rights to a jury in trial, and more.
Kansas-Nebraska Act
The north believed that the government should sell public land and decide for position. The south believed that by doing that, it would violate rights. This act divided and split up political parties because of popular sovereignty to territories, and because of debates.
Nat Turner's Rebellion
This rebellion caused stronger state laws to be made. This was because Nat Turner was rebelling against slavery, so they had to create stronger slave and state laws to protect from runaways and rebellions.

After the 11 states that seceded did, they were created and named the Confederate States of America. This was a big part in the Civil War because they were created as a new big group of people and created a party.

Election of 1860
Each runner in the election was nominated by different parties. The runners were Stephen Douglass nominated by the northern democrats. John C. Breckenridge nominated by the southern democrats. John Bell nominated by the Middle-of-the-Road party. And Lincoln nominated by the republican party. Lincoln won the election because the democratic party split up earlier during Dred Scott v. Sanford. This was important in the Civil War because of the fact that Lincoln was elected president. This later caused issues leading into secession for other states.

Dred Scott v. Sanford
The Dred Scott decision was a very big debate that lasted a long time. Dred Scott believed that him having been a slave and in a free state should nat result in him still being a slave. The final decision was that African Americans were not legal citizens, the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional because of his thoughts, and more. Scott was unable to sue. This caused the democratic party to split. This is important in the Civil War because this decision led into major effects in the Election of 1860 because of the party splitting and is also still huge discussion being brought up today.

Nat Turner's Rebellion
Nat Turner planned to take down the Army. He had poor planning to begin with which caused this rebellion to be somewhat of a failure. He hid for 2 weeks, then was captured, and hanged. This was a major part in the Civil War because he Nat Turner was rebelling against slavery because he was a slave himself. The beginnings of this caused more issues later on.
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote a book of runaway slave stories. The character in the book was a slave. The book was popular in the north and Europe, though banned from being sold in south. This was because of the balance and disrupt of free and slave states. This was also a big part in the Civil War because of how unhappy the south was from this book about slavery and the bad things about it.

Some of the political parties split up during this act because of popular sovereignty to territories. There were fears of violence in debates because of the unhappy people, and arguments of beliefs. The Democratic Party was divided to sectional lines. The Republican Party was recognized nationally and high popular party. Compromise of 1850
The new law made all citizens help capture runaway slaves, it made punishments more harsh, and more laws included regarding jury trials. This was a big part in the Civil War because by California wanting to become a free state, people were unhappy about decisions which had to make more harsh punishments to control and be able to capture runaway slaves which gets to be a big problem later on.
Compromise of 1820
The north is afraid of slavery and didn’t want slavery. The south on the other hand was afraid of the decisions of federal government. This began to be a big national debate between how they would work the problems of slavery out. They then made a law that all states after 1820 have to be entered determined by the 36 30’ line. This determined whether or not the state would be a free or slave state. This was a major part in the Civil War because after this, states had to be entered determined by where they are. They wouldn’t be able to decide to be a free or slave state.

John Brown's Raid
John Brown was determined to free slaves all in all. He made an army of escaped slaves and African American to free all slaves. The army was caught and captured by marines after raiding the arsenal. This was a big factor in the civil war because this group of slaves were determined to free the other slaves. This shows that they were unhappy about what slavery was turning to be and how they were treated.

Economic
Compromise of 1850
California wanted to become a free state. This caused many arguments over land and views of the north and south because by making California into a free state, it would disrupt the balance that the Missouri Compromise made between slave and free states. The debates on position and land causes this part in the Missouri Compromise to be economic.

Secession
States were seceding whether or not the person that they wanted were elected or not. For example, South Carolina would secede if Lincoln was elected. South Carolina did secede in 1860 by the state legislature. 10 more states followed them making a total of 11 states that seceded because Lincoln was elected.
Slavery
Slavery during the Civil War caused major debates between so many people and parties. Slavery first started in the New World because there was not enough people to do laboring work for example, growing cotton, tobacco, and sugar. Slavery was not originally about race though more so about punishments and consequences of the Portuguese. Slavery led to many huge debates for example, statehood being free or slave states during the Missouri Compromise. John Brown’s Raid which was determination to free all slaves. And Dred Scott v. Sanford which was belief that being a slave and taken to free states should not be qualified as a slave because of the Missouri Compromise split.
