Slavery
Slavery started because there were shortages of settlers to work the land. Then transactions action between settler and African tribes to sell their prisoners of war for weapons. It mostly happened in the south in America.
This is an economic cause of the civil war because with the cotton gin it produced more cotton per day per one slave increasing the economy.

Secession of Southern States
The South has threatened secession before but when Lincoln was elected south Carolina finally seceded from the union because they were afriad Lincoln would abolish slavery. Most other slave holding states seceded form the Union after South Carolina and became the Confederate States of America.
This is an economic cause of the civil war because the union lost its most reliable source of income, which was the south´s income based on slavery.

Nat Turner's Rebellion
Nat Turner's Rebellion was a rebellion started by a African American and abolitionist. He started the rebellion because of a vision he thought he got from God about a battle between black and whites. Nat Turner's Rebellion was a economic cause of the Civil War because it made northerners more inclined to tell official where runaway slaves are to be sent back to plantation owners and slaves less open to rebelling so there are less people running away from work.

Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott Decision was a supreme court case in 1854. Scott sued for citizenship because he had been in a free state. The decision was since Scott is a slave he is not a citizen therefore cannot sue.
This is a social cause of the Civil War because it shows how African Americans are not thought as citizens.

Compromise of 1820/ Missouri Compromise
The comprise was created because Missouri wanted to enter as a slave state. Congress was afraid that it would upset the balance in congress so allowed Maine to enter and a free state so Missouri could enter as a slave state.
This is a political cause because it reveled an upcoming problems for Congress because of slavery.

Kansas - Nebraska Act
The territory was big enough to slip into two.Due to popular sovereignty the states could vote to choose if it wanted to be a free state or a slave state. The Kansas - Nebraska Act is a political cause because the act was passed through congress and it undid the Missouri Compromise.

Election of 1860
The Election of 1860 was the election when Lincoln became the President. The election split the Democratic party allowing Lincoln to win.

California straddled the 36 30 boundary but wants to be a free state. They allowed California to join as a free state on the principle of popular sovereignty.

John Brown’s Raid on Harpers Ferry
A army of radical abolisonists lead by john brown to take a federal arsenal , so the could march into the south to put a end to slavery. They successfully captured the arsenal but was soon captured by the marines.
This is a political cause because it made the government aware that it need to up security on their arsenals.
This is a political cause because it caused local militia and the marines to attack them.
