Requiem Mass or just a liturgy of the Word take place in the Church. Most priests encourage Mass so that the Eucharist is celebrated.
Cemetery
Rite of Committal and Commendation takes place at the cemetery or crematorium. People say their goodbyes with hope in their heats that they will meet again in the next life.
Home
In Ireland it is common for the Vigil of Prayer in the home. This may take place in the Church if the body is laid out the night before.
Our great hope is that we will be redeemed from death by Christ's victory ('Preparing my funeral' by Cardinal Vincent Nichols)
