Asbestosis
Definition
Asbestosis is a pulmonary fibrosis, a condition in which the lungs tissue becomes scarred overtime.
Pathophysiology
Risk of disease is generally related to the duration and intensity of exposure and the type, length, and thickness of inhaled fibres
-
Alveolar macrophages attempting to engulf inhaled fibres release cytokines and growth factors that stimulate inflammation, oxidative injury, collagen deposition and lung tissue.
Causes of Absestosis
inhaling asbestos fibres, they become embedded in your lungs and lead to the formation of scar tissue
