The Church :church:
The Authority of Church Tradition (these can be the Churches own pattern of worship and ritual, approach to ecumencial councils (scholars who meet to decide on doctrine practices).
Catholic Beliefs
Apostolic Tradition and Succession
Bible and Church have same amount of authority because they are equally linked by the holy spirit.
Relies on Pope and Church for teaching authority.
Need sacraments or priesthood for salvation.
Protestant Beliefs
Relies on Sola scriptura (by scripture alone) for teaching authority. Martin Luther said in a doctrine that scripture is 'the word of God, through which alone we obtain whatever knowledge we have of God and divine things'., sola fide (justification in faith alone).
All believesr ahve equal access to God. Luther rejected the idea that only sacraments and priesthood can recieve salvation, as to him, all believers are priests.
The fundamental Christian belief of the authority of the church is that the Church has authority from scripture. E.g. Matthew 28:19-20, 'go and make disciples of all nations'.
