When they created official unemployment figures, they did not count:
Their jobs were taken by unemployed, therefore increasing German employment rare
Nazis ignored some groups of people who did not have jobs
Army expansion
By 1939, 26 billion marks was spent on the arms forces
Money was spent on manufacutring or new jobs in the army
During 1934, rearmament accelerated and government gave contacts to private industries
Nazis introduced conscription where all me aged between 18-25 had to do 2 years in military forces
It grew from 100,00 to 1.3 million people in 1939
This helped reduce the unemployment rate for younger people
Size of armed forces were increased by Nazis
Job creation schemes
By 1938, 37.1 billion marks was spent on these schemes
Between 1933-38, 3000km of autobahns were completed. 125,000 workers were used
Construction of buildings, house and autobahns created jobs
In June 1933 all building was to be carried out by manual labour
Major government work projects
This maximised the number of people who would get jobs from these projects.
Nazis invested a large amount of money to invest in public work schemes

RAD supplied jobs to the unemployed to work on projects which required lots of manual labour
Worked on building bridges, replanting forests and digging ditches
Wages were low in the government work schemes were low - lower then receiving benefits
In July 1935, a law made it compulsory for all German men aged between 18 and 25 to do six months in the RAD.
If they did not accept it, they would receive any benefit
